Multi-award-winning author Cathryn deVries memorised Cinderella at age three, and devoured fantasy and science fiction from then on. Predictably, she then studied aeronautical engineering on the off-chance NASA would select her for the astronaut program. Graduating with first class honours at (almost) the top of her class, she was left with the unfortunate knowledge that engineering wasn’t for her, so after eschewing the life of a small cog in a large military machine, she turned her hand to motherhood, where she learnt to play the cello from inside her infant daughter’s playpen, and went on a sewing frenzy.

Fourteen years into this unexpected side-quest, which involved three homebirths, five moves, homeschooling, home cooking, and low-tech, low-impact living, her forgotten dream of writing surfaced on the impulse of her creative genius of a neurodiverse daughter, who developed a hyperfixation for Dungeons and Dragons. Her spur of the moment decision to chronicle their family game grew into a fantasy trilogy.

She now writes fantasy and science fiction that explores themes of restorative justice, empowerment, connection with earth and spirit, and finding the true self—all wrapped up in an epic package of immersive world-building and no-spice romance.

Cathryn’s accolades include the Literary Titan Gold Book Award, the Firebird Book Award, the Reader’s Choice Book Award, the Pencraft Award, the American Writing Award, and the Chanticleer International Book Award. She and her family live in the Gold Coast Hinterland, where she enjoys scaring her Boxercise partner with her mean left, dancing out her frustration in a Zumba class, and living in the rainforest pretending she’s an elf.
